Reform National Conference for Action

2009

Conference Resolutions

The conference voted overwhelmingly to pass five resolutions:

  1. This Conference welcomes the fact that the Revision Committee of the General Synod has accepted that there should be statutory provision for those who are opposed to the new legislation to introduce women bishops to the Church of England. It nevertheless reiterates its belief that female headship is without biblical warrant and it urges the House of Bishops to lead the way in halting this divisive innovation
  2. This Conference warmly welcomes the formation of the Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans (UK) and pledges to support the fellowship in its desire to foster orthodox belief within the Anglican Communion. Whilst being mindful of the breadth of its membership, we nevertheless urge the FCA (UK) to formulate a strategy for promoting orthodox oversight of congregations within the UK.
  3. This Conference registers its grave concern at the apparently superficial approach to training ordinands and readers in biblical knowledge and evangelism within the regional training courses.  It calls on the Council to engage in discussions with the Ministry Division with a view to identifying deficiencies and seeking consequential changes in the curricula.
  4. This Conference resolves to encourage the ordination of men into the Church of God by the Church of England, recognising that since the Church of England’s doctrine is governed by Canon A5, there remain substantial opportunities for the exercise of gospel ministry.
  5. This Conference registers its disquiet over the difficulties in finding titles for evangelical ordinands in 2009 and calls on dioceses to redress the balance of titles on offer so that more are available to those of evangelical conviction.
